What is SwartzmillerCarboard Art?In late 2019, while waiting for gluedpicture frames to set, I took the cardboard that I had the frames lying on andripped off a couple of small pieces. I grabbed some acrylic paint and did aquick wine painting.The first thing I noticed was the feel on howsmooth the paint went on.Although the cardboard wasn't primed, itdid hold the colors.Cardboard, unlike canvas, adds its owncharacter to the art: corrugation, creases and the advertising on thecardboard.
I did a series of 12paintings on my new “Cardboard Art” medium and put them on aBay for $.98.All 12 sold in the10 day auction, actually eBay bidders have bought over 750cardboard paintingsin a rowsince late 2019.
The cardboard paintingis then glued to a back piece of cardboard with the front of the paintingreceiving several coats of polyurethane; thus the painting is encapsulated forprotection, longevity and enhancing the colors.
