DESCRIPTION

Edward Lear was an English artist, illustrator, author and poet, known for popularising the genre of literary nonsense. Lear wrote and illustrated a wide range of poems, songs and short stories, many of which conform to his nonsense style that gained him notoriety.

This work encapsulates his humour and nonsensical style through a series of charming limericks and their accompanying illustrations.

Illustrated throughout by Lear himself.

This copy dated circa 1919-1922 via the University of Cambridge Libraries. This copy was produced shortly after Warne became a limited company, in 1919.

Bookplate to front pastedown.


CONDITION

In the publishers original pictorial cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, otherwise externally excellent. Inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright, but with pink tide mark to one leaf.
