Newly available information and statistics have been used wherever possible for a clearer interpretation of past events. The remaining chapters consider the direction of politics in the post-Mao era and the use made of new, or revived, structures and practices to achieve the countrys prescribed goals. Also included is a discussion of the trial and sentence of the Gang of Four and the power structure of the new regime under Deng Xiaoping.

The condition of the book is generally good. The cover has several scuffs and blemishes, and light wear and creasing along the edges and corners, but the spine is intact, and all pages are intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
